Google adds face recognition to Picasa
Two years after Google bought Neven Vision (their?) face detection and recognition technology was added to Picasa yesterday. Two years ago I assumed that they would probably do that – just like Riya at the time. Interestingly, the latter seems to have been pretty much abandoned in favour of Like.
The question ow is, how the same feature will be perceived by Picasa users.
In a test run using Picasa Web, the faces in a small album of mine were reliably detected. The real challenge will be how well the recognition will work. That will require some more manual tagging
