The Venice Project Beta
It’s been almost a week since I got the invite for The Venice Project, but I just checked it out today. Seems like the Skype founders Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis are up to something cool. The Venice Project is basically a P2P platform for television/movie streaming. So the core technology model stays the same like in kazaa and Skype.
From the technology point of view it worked quite nicely, indeed. The resolution and the quality in general are impressive. The fullscreen interface reminded me slightly of Apple’s FrontRow. The content is not so impressive yet, some music videos, documentaries, shorts. Community is another aspect of The Venice Project. Not much there yet either, just some chat.
So, overall, it looks promising. But it will just come down to the content and if it catches on with a wide audience.
