Google and NevenVision – vs. Riya??

so, yesterday Google announced that they bought Neven Vision. Finally they start moving in the multimedia search / content-based retrieval domain.

Neven Vision seems to have been active in face detection mostly and applications on the mobilephone, i.e. linking ads to websites by taking a picture etc. (The latter is the same concept like our own little mobileor project).

As announced they will probably add Riya-like features to Picasa. (I.e. face detection and tagging). The integration in a tool like RiYa will obviously be much more powerful than the pure on-line concept of Riya. And if they add a web-vesrion to it that is more like Flickr than the Picasa web-albums, it will become really neat.

But if they start to use the mobile technologies, it might get REALLY interesting…
